Scam

Spoiler
Hi,

I have just had a phone call that I thought was a bit odd from Virgin. Unfortunately I let them log into my computer and went through some of the bits they asked me to.

Can they log in again or can they do anything to my computer?

Thanks

Sarah

How did they access your PC?

What application/website?

Re: Scam

Virgin will never ask to access your PC or to download any software.

Scam calls are rife at the moment. Just put "Scam Calls" into the search box on this board & the Home Phone board & there are dozens of posts from people getting calls.

If you did give them access suspect you either have Malware, or worse still Ransomware on your PC.

Virgin BB TV Landline. Freeview/Freesat HD, Virgin Mobile, Tesco Mobile. Cable customer since 1993

Re: Scam

Unfortunately you’ve been scammed. Did they ask you to open event viewer & show you the ‘errors’ as proof of a problem? This what these people usually do.

You have to assume that all your passwords have been compromised & that these people have access to your bank details & credit/debit cards.
Did they ask you to install any software? If so I would uninstall this immediately using Revo Uninstaller: https://www.revouninstaller.com/products/revo-uninstaller-free/
Also scan your PC for malware:

Try running these programs:
MBAM free: https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
Eset online scanner: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
Adwcleaner: https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcleaner/

If these find one or more infections but do not fully remove them it will be wise to register with a malware removal site to receive dedicated malware removal instructions, an expert will remain with you throughout the process until confirmation that your PC is 100% clean.
