Scam

For the last 2-3 months I have received a message on my landline indicating my internet connection will be cutoff due to illegal activities. Pressing '1' connects me with an individual identifying them as being an employee of BT Open Reach working with Virgin Media and proceeds to explain why my internet connection is going to be terminated. BT Open Reach and Virgin Media having nothing to do with each other is the first indication of scam.  The individual does not want to let you get a word in and does not speak English clearly and distinctly. On the last two calls, caller ID identifies the numbers, yes two different numbers, 06966976081 and 04235598140.  If called back both result in a recording indication the number has not been recognised after pressing the second number.

Re: Scam

A well known scam reported here and elsewhere many times.

The caller ID numbers are spoofed.

Hi JohnAlkire,

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear about this.

I can assure you this is a scam call and not one from ourselves.

Re: Scam

I never said or implied that you did Martin.  I posted what I considered a variation of the scam so others would know.  If you would rather I not make others aware please let me know.

Re: Scam

Today I have had three phone calls all purporting to be from Virgin Media and claiming I have an internet problem that they would fix. I asked the first person for my address - they hung up; I told the second person I didn't have Virgin Media they hung up; I told the third person that I was going to report them and get the police around - they swore at me and eventually hung up. Dialing 1471, I discovered the last call was made from 01708528240 . Can Virgin media trace this phone and shut down these scammers/time wasters?
