Pre-authorise text

I have received 2 text tonight from virgin media saying they have failed to pre authorise my monthly direct debit asking me to update my details at virgin.ecareupdate.com...is this a scam

totally a scam. do not open any links or reply if you did give any details chance passwords and contact your bank

I thought so but very worrying that the can send messages on the same number as virgin does

That reply begs the question what is your company doing to stop miscreants sending over 50,000 spoofed calls via your servers!

call centers always spoof calls. All internal phones use the CLI of the main call center/company number. DDI numbers are also spoofed.

This is normal protice.

VM call centers all call out with the same (main) number. This is spoofed. All phones can not have the same number 🙂

 

My work phone spoofs my number as First line support. I don't want anyone calling 3rd line directly if i forget to withhold it 🙂

Ok, so your company is using a legitimate method to show a single call centre number regardless of the originating call number.

This is not really a useful model to use to compare with the criminal fraternity who regularly spoof cli numbers in an attempt to disguise their activities.

Agree i wasn't using it to compare. I was pointing out that its so easy to do, Is done millions of times a day and there is no way to stop it. Its pretty normal function of the modern phone systems.
