One Of My Devices is Using Malware

kopnut

Hi All, first time  asking for help so please be patient with me.... ta. I have had several letters from VM saying one of my devices is infected with the Mirai malware, my devices are as follows -;

Windows 10 desktop running windows edge

Ipad

2 Android phones

cctv

smart tv

and thats it

I have run scans on phones, ipad , desktop but don't have a clue to scan smart tv or cctv so am at a loss.

now they are threatening to cut me off if I don't get rid of it . I have scanned several times, I have downloaded malwarebytes premium setup at a cost and run scans.... nothing. I have even tried to setup web safe but  all I get is a blank page. I have looked on the communities page but found no help there. I am at a loss as to what else I can do. do , Any  help  with this would be gratefully received.... Thanks to all in advance who read this.

Mirai relies on device's using their default password to compromise them, i.e. that set at the factory and shared between devices.

Is your CCTV using a default password, if so change it and power cycle the device.

Hi there, very much a very insightful person, thank you. I have reset  default password and rebooted/powered down cctv as instructed.... one more query arises though, that is , I won't know if what I have done has cleared the mirai malware until I either receive another threatening letter from VM or I don't !. Is there a way to find out if I have got rid or the mirai or it is still present ?.... thanks again for your input

Was your CCTV using the default password?

The malware does not survive a reboot, so changing it and rebooting should be sufficient.

That reply will give me a sigh of relief,  thanks again for your help.... much appreciated 👍

Hi again, can I ask if I have to reset the dvr on my cctv back to factory settings  or will password  change and reboot  suffice?, thanks  again.

For the moment try just changing the default password and then rebooting the device.

Thanks for that Travis_m , hopefully it does rid me of mirai, the only problem  i have with the whole situation is that I don't know i have got rid until VM send me another letter ..... mmmmm, food for thought coming up...... Will they notify me if I'm mirai free ? 🤔. Thanks again for the input .
