Yes it's a well known scam and on the increase because more people are at home. No one will follow it up because no one can. The number is spoofed - made up or a clone of a real customer who has no idea that their number has been purloined. Blocking it would deny that customer their use of the phone.
It will stop eventually when the scammers move on.
