Hi, I have an old virginmedia email account which someone gained access to and changed the password for.
My initial response was to stop using the account, but I would like to either get back access or close the account in case anyone tries to send anything sensitive to it.
Does anyone know who to report this to and how to have the account closed?

We're sorry to hear you've had issues with an old email address. If you are still an existing Virgin Media broadband customer then we can reset things for you.
If you're no longer a customer then we wouldn't be able to gain access but we can raise with the IT Team to have the email address deleted.
In order to do that I will need to confirm some information with you to pass security. I have sent you a direct message to allow us to do this with you in a private space. Just click on the little envelope at the top right-hand side of the page to access your inbox.

They have advised that they have no deleted the email address as requested.
