Bogus nuisance call

Virgin media security issue. Have just received a call from someone in a telesales office environment on my private landline, who claimed to be from Virgin media, she advised there was a security breach on my Virgin broadband and someone else was using it. (Was plausible as the broadband has been really flakey recently) To improve my security, I was asked to download an app from my App Store using a search of the term “quick support”. No Virgin media was evident, so I asked her for proof of problem and why it was not flagged on my account. The lady got irritated so I terminated the call, and then reported this to Virgin, who advised no such issues. Please be vigilant. I understand  Virgin will never ask you to download software.

Re: Bogus nuisance call

Hi @Johngab,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

I'm so sorry to hear that you received this kind of call. It definitely doesn't sound like us, and we wouldn't ever ask you to download any software onto your computer.

If you haven't done so already, I'd advise signing up to the Telephone Preference Service to help minimise any unwanted scam calls. You can also find some further information here.

If you receive them on your Virgin Media landline, there's more information here.

Thanks,

Zach - Forum Team

Unfortunately TPS will not help at all with scam calls. It's sole function is as below

"Our remit covers live unsolicited sales or marketing calls. We can only deal with complaints regarding these types of call.

Registration with the TPS won’t reduce other types of calls you receive, such as nuisance or abusive calls; nor can we investigate them."

Taken from

https://www.tpsonline.org.uk/pages/nuisance

TPS sign-up might be a useful thing in general terms against nuisance sales calls but not as a measure against scam callers.
