Received call on mobile (non Virgin) from a woman of ,I guess, eastern origin. Expected it to be a scam call but she appeared to know just how long I had been with Virgin. Managed to make out she was talking about my internet account I think, but asked for the information to be sent to me via email. The reply was that they did not operate that way and left me to have a good day. If this is not a scam, why can I not be contacted by email?

VM never use email to communicate with customers.

Hi @malandrab
Good morning and thanks for posting on our community forum!
I can confirm that this is a genuine Virgin Media number used for sales purposes.
If you wish to be removed from our marketing, you can do this by heading over to this link virg.in/optout

If this was a marketing call, what was being offered; as I have no idea?

Hi @malandrab,
Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to confirm what this call was for, or offering - deals are selective and dedicated to you and tend to relate to your existing package. The team will attempt to call you back, or alternatively, you can speak with our Care Team directly to look into this, by calling 0345 454 1111.
Cheers,
