Does anyone know if this number is a scam or not?

08000522170

I have just rang the number back as it called me earlier today. It says they’re chasing payment for £28.25 for Virgin Media, it’s for my handset.

The thing is I’ve just paid my last payment on the handset so I don’t know why they’re chasing me for this amount. Also the amount is incorrect I normally paid £28.50.
I’ve also had a letter to say that my last payment was paid and and my contract had now finished.

Could someone please let me know if this is a scam call? I’ve checked online and there are reports of it being a scam.

Any info will be gratefully appreciated

Claire

Hi Mollyx649,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

I'm very sorry for any confusion with that call. If you have already paid in full for the handset and you don't have any other handsets that require payments.

Then that would be a scam call.

So, is it an VM number or not??

Hey @Sinoos, thanks for reaching out to us.

It is a Virgin Media number for the mobile side of the business, Virgin Mobile.
Hope this clarifies.

Kind regards.

It's a virgin media number so how is it a scam call?

It is impossible to determine if a call is real or a scam based on the displayed caller ID number alone.

Scammers regularly programme their phone systems to show a phone number of a real/legitimate business as a fake caller ID.

If you want to be sure you are talking to VM, you have to phone VM yourself.
