Posting a photo of what you are trying to connect to may get you some further help.

If you have something like the image at message #4 below (a plug to plug arrangement)

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/QuickStart-set-up-and/no-virgin-media-wall-socket/td-p/4353656

You can use a coupler like this to join them together

https://www.diy.com/departments/slx-f-type-satellite-cable-coupler/5028422001905_BQ.prd

The new cable from the 'Quick Start' kit (with the red marker/label) is a push fit, the older connectors are a screw fit.

An unused wall socket may have a terminator cap fitted (as per message #3 below)

https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/QuickStart-set-up-and/Cannot-unscrew-bolt-on-Virgin-Media-boc/t...

If you have one of those in the way, use an 11mm spanner to carefully undo the terminator cap and then connect the 'Quick Start' cable.

Those are two common obstacles to making a connection.

If you still have no luck with help on here (once your photo is on view) you call the pre-installation and delivery team on 0800 052 1734 and request a tech visit to fit the right socket.

thank you so so much, will try this
