What renewal offers are you guys getting?

Hi all, I need to do the dreaded haggle today with 3 weeks left on my contract.

I am paying £54 (will go up to £58) for 125mb and basic phone call package we don't use - reading through the subreddit has been an eye opener and I feel like I've been massively overpaying 😞

So what kind of deals have you guys managed to get? 🙂

For context we only want fast internet, don't care about TV or anything else, and no other alternatives to VM in our area.

That's too much to pay if you're not even getting TV. 

Have you checked when FTTP will be coming to your area from Openreach or other suppliers?

It's possible to find a whole range of different prices which VM has offered for different services. Here's a recent report of £21 for M250 broadband from retentions

There is nothing to say though that VM would offer you, personally, anything like that.

VM aims to customise each offer to each individual customer, based on a whole different range of criteria, with the aim of extracting as much money as possible from you. For this reason we read on here wildly differing prices which customers are paying for exactly the same service.

Any VM offers will be based on what other options and choices you have in your local area alongside a judgement on how likely VM thinks it is you will actually leave at the end of the renegotiation process. VM's offers change regularly over time (even during a single day) and between different agents.

Usual advice on here is to research your options on where you would move to from VM and have in mind a bottom-line price that will stop you from leaving. Having that info at hand when you speak to VM will mean you will know if any VM offer is any good or not. This is irrespective of whether another provider can match VM's speed or not. If you are really negotiating with VM, it has to be backed by the fact you will cancel if VM's offer is unsatisfactory. A good sales agent will sense if you do not intend to follow through with an instruction to cancel.

VM's offers tend to be 'of the moment' and last only for the duration of the call so, if the offer fits with the above, it is usually best to accept there and then.

Ideally record any calls to VM or keep a record of any chat logs and the specifics of the offer.

There has been quite a few reports of some VM 'confusion' on here recently with deals not coming through as described (with key elements missing the customer believed would be included, pricing not matching or info being sent as a 'pre-contract' document which did not turn into a real package as described therein).

Also factor in VM's price-rise lock-in and check the minimum term duration. Many VM standalone service packages, such as broadband only, are now being offered as 24 month terms.
