Upgrade to 1 Gig?

NickP1968

I have just opted for the £5 upgrade from M500 to 1 Gig.

As a new Virgin Media customer I have only had my equipment for a few weeks, in the email it says I will be sent a hub5 box to self install.

I'm now wondering if I actually need the new box as the one I have is only 3 weeks old?

There is a cost I think of £35 with this upgrade, but do I actually need the new box for this upgrade?

Hi,

Just checked the hub and it's marked 3.0 underneath.

Hi @NickP1968

Thank you for your post and welcome back to our community forums. We're here to help.

Do you know what model of router/Hub you currently have? If you're unsure, there should be a sticker on it that'll confirm.

Thanks,

Hi Zach,

Will have to take a looksy when I get in from work 👍🏻

Just don't want to be paying for something I have already got.

Hi @NickP1968,

No problem at all. Let us know when you're able to check and we can go from there.

Thanks,

If it is a HUB 3 it doesn't support Gig1.

Hi @NickP1968

Thanks for your response

You would need to upgrade your hub to receive the 1gbp speeds - please follow through with the email and keep us updated with how you get on

Have a great weekend

Hi,

Just had the email and it says that it's a new contract.

Since my other contract was less than a month old I'm guessing that as it's an upgrade the price of the upgrade monthly increase £5 will just be added to my direct debit?

Hi @NickP1968

Thanks for your response

Upgrading your broadband speeds would indeed class this is a new deal in terms of the contract, the charge would just be added on to whatever you were previously paying 🙂
