Two virgin media wall sockets

I seem to have two wall sockets for Virgin Media in my house.  One works with my existing connection but the other one is just on the wall doing nothing.  I think it might be for an older connection to the property but I’ve no idea. Both boxes were already here when we moved in.  Any ideas anyone?

Probably for a TV box connection.

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

It's not uncommon to have the hub in one room and the TV in another, so there would be two sockets. Incidentally the phone socket is redundant if not in use and can be safely removed.

Thanks for this info. We don’t have virgin tv and absolutely no plans to get it so will probably try to remove the box.

"so will probably try to remove the box." not recommended and it’s against VMs T&C. If you really want it removed VM will do it for £25.

It's a phone socket, doesn't matter if the phone wires are not terminated, quite different to a cable socket when an unterminated coaxial cable can cause problems if it allows noise ingress.

The photos show 2 different VM broadband sockets and 1 unbranded phone socket.

Hi all. Thanks for the feedback. I got in touch with VM who said it was fine to remove the box as it’s for an old phone line connection, but now I have some loose cabling coming in through my wall from the omnibox. When I asked about how to deal with it they said to come here and ask.

I want rid of the cables as won’t be getting a phone line from VM ever. I can pull the cables out of the wall but then I have loose cabling outside my house coming from the omnibox.  How should I deal with it? Should I leave it in the wall and just seal it over on the inside or do I open up the omnibox to remove them? I’m not keen on that second idea as don’t want to damage the omnibox.

Just cut the telephone cable off in the omnibox.
