Switchover from copper to fibre confirmation on doorstep?

Someone knocked, and I think said he was from BT (didn't catch it),

He said my area had had fibre put in and he was checking if specific places had been switched, asking for a device connected to the internet for some kind of test.

Can anyone advise if this is standard, or a scam?

Either a scammer or a very shoddy door-to-door salesman looking for a sales angle in to tell you how much better you'd be to switch from your current provider to the one he was representing.

Trust your instincts.

If you need to ask whether it's a scam, it is a scam!
