Surrounding area has Virgin but we do not

We are wanting to get the ball rolling to get Virgin Media services fitted to our block of flats, the surrounding are has Virgin Media cabling.

I understand as it is a private road we would need full permissions to have it fitted and we do have that from the landlord as all tenants would benefit from much faster broadband.

It’s very rare that blocks of flats are retrofitted for cable unless there is fibre distribution to every flat already in situ.

Not only do you need permissions, as it is a block of flats these have to be internally wired via the core of the building. Any coaxial outlets being used in the flats must have triple screened cables suitable for cable Broadband & TV, otherwise the entire building would need to be rewired to provide VM services. It’s not VMs responsibility to do this, so the cost would likely fall on the landlord.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much.

Thanks for the reply. I mentioned its a block of flats but it is more like a single large house with 4 flats, I was told that it would be a relatively easy job when I brought it up during a conversation with an openreach engineer (I'm not sure how knowledgeable they are with Virgin Media installations however).

As I am good friends with the landlord he has given myself full permissions to attempt to upgrade the networking infrastructure of the building. We were originally looking at City Fibre as they are installing it in the surrounding area but I know nothing about them as a business or how reliable they are.
