Super Hub problems

We had a power cut on Saturday. The router restarted. However, It would no longer talk to my Apple Airport units. I called Apple and factory reset the units. A real pain. There is also a similar issue when I unplug my Mac from the network( hard wired to the router). It usually resolves with randomly restarting different but of equipment on the network. The old hub I'd had for 6 years didn't exhibit this problem. Any ideas to what the problem may be?

Below is the log from Saturday

Re: Super Hub problems

I take it you have got a new Hub3 - correct? If so what are the lights on it showing and doing? What exactly is the "similar issue" on the wired Mac?
I would do a pinhole reset of the Hub3 to factory settings first to see if that clears it. With the Hub "on" push in the pin on the back/side/bottom of the Hub with the end of a paperclip until you feel it at the “stop point” and hold it there firmly for a "timed" 60 seconds do NOT restart the Hub after that. Leave it 5' or so to stabilise and then your passwords/passphrase for both the Hub settings and the Wifi networks will revert to the two printed on the Hub sticker on its base/side/card.

Also, your Airport units... I assume these are Expresses and connecting by wifi - correct? You may want to try changing the settings in the Hub3 to disable channel optimisation and rename the SSID's of the 2.4 & 5 GHz wifi bands - so they are distinctly separated.

Re: Super Hub problems

Those T3’s are often indicative of noise on your circuit. Please post you up/downstream stats.

Re: Super Hub problems

All values are within spec, although there does seem to be a wide range of power levels on the downstream. The Pre RS errors are corrected errors, but if you have power cycled or pin hole reset the hub recently they are a little on the high side. Again all I can suggest is a noisy circuit. You could try customer services to see if there are any problems in your immediate area or wait a couple of days for a VM staff member to get to your post.

Re: Super Hub problems

Hi SDM72,

Thank you for reaching out to us in our community, I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your super hub.

I have done some checks our end I cannot see any issues at all all levels are as they should be, no SNR issues, I hear that you have reset your apple products, have you done a pin reset on our hub, if you haven't this is something I would advised trying.

You will find the reset hole at the back of the router above the white cable, push a pin/ paper clip in the hole until you feel it pressing in, hold it in for a timed 1 minute, please do not turn the router off during or after this, allow to settle then try the connections again.

Kind regards

Paul.

Re: Super Hub problems

Thanks for your input. Frankly, none of these issues happened on my old router. Listening to the voices in the know- it seems that if i buy another router put Virgin's on to Modem mode then there's a reasonable chance the problem may disappear. I really hope so. Life since Super HUb 3 has been less than ideal.

Re: Super Hub problems

I have the SH2 and have always had it in modem mode with an Airport Extreme and x2 Expresses and have never had any wifi issues issues - solid 220mbps down and 21 up on the Air/Pro/iPhones - when sat in the same room as one of the 3 devices on the 5GHz band. Some fall off in distant rooms but never less than 100mbps.
