Should I cancel installation

Tuning in

Hi, recently I got a message from virginmedia saying I can now register with them. So I registered 7th Jan, but the earliest installation date is the end of march! I have since realised virginmedia might be using the recently installed FTTP over telegraph poles in my area. So I'm now getting cold feet and thinking I should just go with another provider - mainly because of the poor customer service & reliability issues mentioned here (I work at home). Is there anyway of checking if they are using FTTP over poles and what impact if any is this likely to have on installation, reliability etc ?

'Registering' for VM versus actually 'installing' VM are two different things, as you have already, and wisely, realised! The time gap between the two may be significant.

You will probably need the VM forum team to investigate for you and see if they can comment. They usually reply here within a few days.

If you are in an area now receiving FTTP via the telephone poles, what other options have you investigated to see what might be available?

Thanks. Yes, vodaphone, EE, sky have already been in touch. I'm already with sky so it's tempting to pay a few pounds more to stay with them

VM installing via telephone poles seems to be a relatively new thing based on the topics on here which have mentioned it in passing.

I have been using a BT FTTP connection via a telephone pole connection for nearly a year now. It has been very good indeed.

If other providers are actually 'live' now via Openreach FTTP (and VM is only registering interest) that would certainly be worth considering in the decision making IMO.

You may possibly get some clarity from the VM forum team when they reply here within a few days but they may well just refer you to VM's sales number for further info.

Hi,

I have received an email from sky saying they will cancel their services on the 28th March. Strange as VM say on the website they don't arrange cancellations for customers moving from sky.

Now concerned about being left without internet if VM fail to turn up on the 29th!
