Setting up brand new internet.

I (24F, if it matters) just moved to a new apartment and want to set up wireless internet. Instead of paying to rent a modem/router each month, I'd like to save money and buy and install my own. However, I'm not sure what all I need or where to start, as they just reworked the electrical system in my apartment and all I have for connectivity is a black cable coming out of the wall with the end just cut off. I don't have a lot of tech knowledge, but I enjoy learning! So, I'm assuming the process would go like this: 1. Buy a modem and router, 2. Find out how to install said modem to the protruding cable... 3. Buy internet service, letting them know I have my own equipment, then 4. Set up the wireless service. Boom. I could use some guidance though, if anyone's willing to give it.

Re: Setting up brand new internet.

Hello,

Let me see what I can do to help with this. You would still need to take out a Broadband service with us before you could use your own router.

I’ll send over a private message to take some details and further assist you.

Many Thanks

Christy

Re: Setting up brand new internet.

The VM service monthly fee includes the rental of their Hub which is a modem/router/network switch/wireless access point in one unit. Also includes free maintenance. The WiFi (wireless access point) of the supplied hubs is not very good, but it’s adequate for some users. Other users buy their own router and this is used in conjunction with the VM hub.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Re: Setting up brand new internet.

In other words you can't get your own modem you must use the hub as a modem mode but you are free to add your own router to it.
