I have the same problem. No Virgin media box, just some cables and an open reach port on the wall. Please help

I assume you have a Self install and no virgin or similar wall socket to connect your equipment too. If this is the case you will need to phone for a maned install as this will need to be installed for you or you can wait a few days for forum staff to pick it up on here.
