Re: How to report damage to street equipment

Hi,

The cable from the pavement up to where it enters my garden wall, has had the plastic cover knocked off a couple of times. I have just pushed it back on. But it can now be removed without force and if taken away would leave a dangerous loop hanging out from the wall. I think this cover should be metal or at least a lot better secured.

Post up some photos so a VM person can assess it when they get here

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired, 2 on WiFi) Hub5 in modem mode with Apple Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On Volt 350Mbps, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

20220904_223427_smaller.jpgI have pushed it back on for now, but it is just weight and a little friction are holding it there. I have heard it getting hit a couple of times, people going past on mobility scooters. I think it should be metal.

Hello AlexCopland

Sorry to hear of the damage to the external cable box, we're eager to get this looked into further for you and appreciate you taking the time to raise it via the forums. Welcome to the community.

If you have some images, just so we can make sure it is something we can assist with or our equipment, please post them here.

Rob

The one image I've previously attached shows the damage. The box itself is not on the street and so is OK. But if someone knocks the cable shield off again, the exposed cable poses a hazard to passers-by, and should be reaffixed, ideally replaced with a steel cable shield.

At the same time as the cable protector is being replaced, ask for a 'dolly' to be fitted to cover the join between the cable and the point where it meets the plastic cover on the pavement. As per image below

Hi,

The fiber cable protector was knocked off again, I have stuck it back on again.

A 'dolly' might take the knocks better.

With coming off and on the rawl plugs are very loose now, it is almost falling off by itself.

Any suggestion when this might get looked at?

Regards Alex

Has this cover been broken for a second time or are you still waiting for a first repair of it going back to your original request at the start of September?
