Property damage

I've purchased a property that suffers from damp! on pulling away the damaged plaster etc its become apparent the cause of the damp is a virgin media installation team outside the property,  they have tarmacced around my gutter downpipe creating a hole around it with nowhere for water to drain away....... whats worse is I cant get virgin media at the property even though there's a virgin media cable directly outside my house!

pictures are posted on imgbb

Re: Property damage

If you can prove this was done by Virgin's contractors then you need to take legal advice as you will not get any positive response here. The forum staff have very little authority.

It's going to be complicated by the fact that the property was owned by someone else when the work was done.

Re: Property damage

Hi as jpeg1 has said, it is also a public forum so legal issues have to go direct to virgin, but I personally would be very wary of incurring large legal costs, unless you have a cast iron case.Regards Micky

Re: Property damage

Was the damp problem not picked up when you had the property survey - they usually are.
If so - you were aware of it and agreed to the purchase anyway.
If not - your surveyor may be liable ?

Re: Property damage

who caused it is irrelevant imo - if it was like that when you purchased it then you need to talk to a solicitor to sue the surveyor if you had a survey done - if you just had the basic survey even that should have picked up damp and it should have been reported for you to negotiate a reduction in the asking price or push the owner to resolve it before you bought the property

Re: Property damage

Yes sorry I should have been more clear I was aware of the damp when I bought the property, I’m not posting In order to make a claim my issue is who I need to speak to in order to resolve the situation I can’t go around just digging up tarmac etc around there installation on the pavement which isn’t on my property but the situation needs resolving or I’m not gunna get rid of the damp it’s causing

Re: Property damage

all work done by VM is to an agreed standard with your local council and is signed off by the council - they own the roads and pavements - i think you should contact them initially
