Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

The cable that connects from the wall socket to the modem is only 30cm long when it was installed.

I have replaced the surround furniture and now its difficut to position the modem.

Would it be possible to post a longer cable about 50cm? This cable does not require a enginner visit as its no different than the self install pack cables..

I only have 6 weeks left on the contract so if it can't be sent by post other option is cancel the contract and get new contract in partners name and request free enginner visit which is waste of enginner visit.

Re: Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

You can't get a free engineer by cancelling and signing up again, you'll probably get 14 days without any service to switch over the contracts and then a £35 charge for a "manned installation fee" compared to a free install for a Quickstart/Do it yourself installation, and don't forget the £35 activation charge as well...

Customer services will probably also request you send the current equipment back and they'll send you new equipment for new contract, then it'll get lost in the post!

Must agree though, that cable seems a little short, mine is looped around the floor it's so long, I'd love to have a smaller cable! I'd swap with you but I don't fancy being without broadband for a week.

What you could do (I haven't suggested this of course!) is to complain that your existing cable has been damaged and ask to be sent a replacement. Then you have two 30cm cables. Get a back-back connector for a couple of quid and you have a 60cm cable. 🙂

Re: Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

I am a light user on M100 service and it was free engineer setup plus a £75 credit on account when i joined.

Virgin always doing promotion for free setup for new customer setup via price comparision websites 🙂

I am not a heavy user like the big boys on M350 and M500 so have no issues going back to Talktalk and some cashback.

You must have those pre-made self instal cables if very long.

I wonder next time I spot a VM engineer on the road I donate some lunch money in exchange for a cable 🙂

Don't tell anyone but Screwfix sell one that works fine but it is against virgins terms to use.

Or just go on Amazon any buy a short RG6 cable yourself - You can buy them with the compression F type connectors already added for a few quid. Something like this:

Re: Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

Thanks for all the suggestions guys 🙂

I dont want to risk it with 3rd party cables incase 1 day engineer visit is needed for an actual fault and they spot 3rd party cable.

I shall look for VM enginner on the roadside and offer them lunch money 🙂

Re: Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

Never use non-VM cables - my daughter did for her V6 - after VM tracked down the whole neighbourhood's issues were being caused by it - we were lucky to get away with no charges after violating our T&C's !

I thought VM included made-up 3m cables in quick start packs these days - is that not correct - anyone?

You might get friendly engineer but dont bank on it as changing the length of the cable can alter the power levels on the Hub and these would then need to be reset by the techy. If you want to have it rewired and set up exactly where you want it VM will do that for you for a £99 no-fault call out charge.

Whether you regard that as expensive for a lunch - depends on you tastes 🙂

I do not work for VM. My services: HD TV on VIP (+ Sky Sports & Movies & BT sport), x3 V6 boxes (1 wired 2 WiFi,) SH2 in modem mode with Airport Extreme Router +2 Airport Express's. On VIVID200, Talk Anytime Phone, x2 Mobile SIM only iPhones.

Re: Post a replacement interior white cable please 50cm long

I only need a extra 20cm longer cable.

My power level very high so if anything the extra 20cm should lower the power.

But I will only use genuine VM cable.
