Ring must have badly written code. You should never have to open ports. Your device should contact Ring, and they respond, no ports need opening. If Ring contact you first, then you need to open ports. It’s sloppy code to do it the second way.

Well I don’t know... I’m very much a layman in this field all I know is it works on android , used to work on iOS... I’ve done nothing but added on a couple of WiFi extenders from virgin . It still worked after that nothing else has been changed and now it doesn’t work at all on the iPads. However if I set up a hotspot on Android, connect to it, iit works on iPads.
Thats what ring support told me to do. Setting up the hotspot that is,and at that point they said I need to get these ports opened mentioned earlier in this thread
