Package upgrade - How to activate with a single coax connection

I've been a Telewest/Virgin customer for many years, and for most of that time I've been Internet only, and I'm currently on their Vivid 200 internet package. I have a single coax point in my flat, with a Cable modem connected directly to, and my internet connection is working fine.

I received a sales call from Virgin earlier this week and for not more than I'm paying at the moment I have moved to a new package which includes Vivid 500, TV and Phone. I asked the sales person if it was okay to just stick the TV box in a cupboard and never use it, and he confirmed that it was.

The new TV box has arrived and I need to activate the new package. Is it possible to get Virgin to activate my new 500 Mb connection with just the Cable modem connected, or do I need to find a way to connect the TV box and/or modem to my single coax point first?

Once my new package is activated the TV box will be packed away never to see the light of day again, so I'm looking for some advice on what I need to do just to get the new package activated with as little 'messing about' as possible.

Cheers in advance,

G.

Did you get given a new modem? If not then there's nothing you need to do.

If so, then you may need to ring the activation number to put the new modem onto your account.

You would need a splitter to activate the TV box, but if you have no desire to use it then there's no need to activate it.

Re: Package upgrade - How to activate with a single coax connection

I just received the TV box, I have a cable modem which apparently already supports 500 Mb.

I've run a quick test on speediest.net and I'm getting my normal 220/20, so nothing has changed there.

A quick reboot of the box should pull down the new configuration. Have you checked the configuration by checking it with a web browser to the routers home page ?

My SuperHub 3 is in modem mode (with a UniFi USG looking after routing duties) so it's not easy to get to the modem's status page, but I shall try the reboot once I've finished work for the day and see what happens!

Re: Package upgrade - How to activate with a single coax connection

One reboot of my SuperHub later, and I'm still getting the 220/20 I was getting before hand.

Presumably a call is required to enable the new package?

Have you checked the 'Configuration' tab within 'Advanced Settings\Tools\Network Status' to check if the config has changed?

Seemingly!

BTW, even in modem mode you can still get to the modems status page. It's just on 192.168.100.1 instead of 192.168.0.1, unless you have some weird routing going on.

I've plugged a laptop directly into the modem and done the manual IP address dance and cable swap to access the modem page. Not sure how to tell when the config was last updated, not sure what else I missed, but this looked like the key info;

You are still on M200 config.
