Hi,
i have a single black coax cable coming into my flat from outside. If i follow it outside it goes to a white telewest box.
the black cable runs around the skirting and is connected to a standard tv socket like so:
the cable i have from my virgin quick start setup is the same connection as the wall socket. Isit possible to use an adaptor, kind of like the couplers ive seen you advising people to use.. like this one:
i passed the quick start check so im slightly confused as to what i need to do here

You cannot use an adapter as the socket on the wall will not we fully screened inside and will introduce noise into your circuit and all others on the same street box. Call pre-installs team on 0800 052 1734 8AM- 9PM Monday - Friday or 8AM-6PM Saturday and Sunday.
They will arrange a technician to install the correct sockets.

Ok,
is it as simple as just changing the socket front to a vm one?

Possibly yes. Unscrew the current outlet and try tracing the wire. It should go the the outside omnibox. Even if it doesn’t the VM will install a new cable at no cost.

Yeah the wire goes back to a external telewest box. I opened that and the rg6 cable says virgin media on it.
So im guessing all i need to do is fix a VM wall socket instead of the coaxial outlet?

Also, how do i go about getting a VM box delivered? Surely i dont need to buy one myself?

you need a tech to sort it - take the front off and my guess is the cable is not connected to the external VM box - again guesswork someone has used the hole for a standard aerial cable
so once the cover is removed post some more photos of what you find

The cable is connected in the external telewest box and the cable actually says virgin media on it aswel inside the telewest box
i am sure there was previously an internal virgin wall socket but has since been changed to a coaxial tv outlet instead.

that certainly looks like VM - take the front off the internal cover and see if the VM cable is hidden inside - if its been butchered to have the standard aerial connector on it you need a tech to sort it
if its not behind that cover then you need to search further
