Virgin no longer use landline sockets (which were for phone only, they were never used for broadband).
The cable in the second picture is the one you need to connect too. The white cable has an isolator attached, the open end may be covered by a terminator cap, which needs removing (you need a small spanner which may be in the kit provided). Push your provided connector onto the open end.
Example shown from a recent post (this one has a terminator cap):
There also looks like an attenuator on the floor. You may not need this, but we need to see what the result of connecting the hub is first.

Ok, so I plugged the isolator into the white wire and connected that to the the cable for the virgin Box, the Wi-Fi and arrow lights lit up whilst light bar was orange then they both disappeared and now it’s only an orange light

Do you have a working internet connection from the hub now via WiFi or a wired device?
Give it a try. If not then you need to contact Virgin for assistance.
