No Splitter received with self-install setup kit

I'm a new customer with Virgin (M125 Fibre) so I don't have a Virgin splitter. I've received the self installation kit with a hub3, going through the installation process, and I'm asked to take the red-banded end of the isolator cable, and plug it firmly into the Virgin Media socket on the wall. But I don't have a splitter or any 'Virgin media socket'. I just have a short coaxial cable on my wall, and it has a male end.

Shouldn't I have received a splitter / virgin media  as well? Or was I expected to have my own splitter? How am i supposed to connect a male end of a coaxial cable with another male cable? Can you please help me?

You need one of these (They aren't supplied by VM as wall sockets usually have the expected female end):

Oh, can I just use an adapter? Thanks, I'll try it

Yes, essentially it's just joining two copper wires.
