New user trouble connecting

Hello , Ive got the QuickStart kit and all is connected via your instructions. I’ve tried using the connect app , but it can’t find my hub. Is this step important? My phone line works. The base line on the hub looks more of an amber than white to me .

You don't need to use the app.  Once connected you should be able to connect a wifi and/or cabled device and use the Internet.
