Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

Hi All

My Network connection has been unstable for many weeks now, and the instability has survived despite visits from no fewer than 4 engineers. Part of the issue is that the connection will work for several hours on end, before collapsing back into its old bouncy self.  During a bounce, all connectivity is lost for a few minutes at a time, followed by a few minutes of reduced-speed connection.  During such an episode my usual downstream speed of 380Mbs falls to as low as 30 MBs.  Upstream speed of 35Mbs is unaffected.

The latest suggestion from Virgin is to replace the Hub.  I suspect that this is more out of desperation than anything else.  New Hub due in 3 days.

Error messages vary, but the attached is typical.

Re: Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

Can you post the Upstream data as well please.

Then

Can you set up a Broadband Quality Monitor (BQM) at thinkbroadband.com - this will give you an insight into what is happening with the signal at the other side of the Hub, it will take a few hours to get any kind of trend showing although you should post the link straight away.

Post a link to your BQM on here.

Instructions for posting BQM Link

Under your BQM graph are two links in red.

Click the lower link (Share Live Graph) then click generate.

Copy the text in the Direct Link box, beware, there may be more text than you can see.

On here click the Link icon (2 links chain to the left of the camera icon)

In the URL box paste the link you copied and in the ‘text to display’ box write My BQM then click OK - you can post the link straight away.

Re: Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

Your >> BQM << will need 24 few hours to show any kind of real trend that can be looked at in conjunction with the other information that you have provided.

New BQM to reflect installation of a replacement hub and consequent change of dynamic IP address.

Re: Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

You have a lot of T3 time-outs and I suspect noise on the line.

Re: Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

For completeness here are the Upstream and Downstream cut-and-pastes from the new Hub 3 after a few hours of operation.  There are, so far at least, no new reports on the network log since the Hub configured and came online and so far, the service appears stable.

Sadly, the new router has made no difference and the same problems are apparent this morning.

Re: Networking bouncing for the last 5 weeks

Hi nigelx, thanks for getting in touch - apologies for the delay getting back to you.

Apologies also for the problems you've had with the service. I wasn't able to run any checks or help further using your forum details alone on this occasion - so I'll get in touch via PM to confirm a few details and hope to hear back from you soon.

Tom
