Must hub connect to V360?

I am setting up a new Hub and TV 360 set top box. I had Virgin previously and had the Hub upstairs (for hardwire Ethernet to PC) and the tv box downstairs - both were happily attached to their own wall inlets. The Hub and the set top box were not physically linked to each other. The set top box connected to wifi.

The new kit comes with a splitter cable that has an Ethernet cable running along it and the nature of the splitter cable suggests I have to have the Hub and the TV 360 close to each other and connected to each other via the Ethernet cable.

Can I simply connect the Hub to the upstairs wall inlet and the TV 360 to the downstairs inlet in the same way I did before or do they now need to be connected by an Ethernet cable?

I’m happy to try out the combinations, but thought I’d check if someone knows before I waste time on it.
Thanks in advance.
Michelle

Re: Must hub connect to V360?

A TV360 box requires 3 connections..

1: Co-ax cable carrying live broadcast TV channels

2: Internet connection, via your homehub, for all online functions. Ethernet is ideal & recommended, reliable wireless is fine.

3: HDMI to your TV

Re: Must hub connect to V360?

You have just been supplied with a standard kit. Just don’t use the parts you do not require.

To answer your question directly, yes the V360 needs to have a connection to the hub, either by Ethernet, the best way or WiFi.

The best initial option for most people in your situation is hub to upstairs socket so your PC gets broadband (probably more important than getting TV if you are someone who needs broadband for things like WFH) and 360 to downstairs socket with the 360 connected to the hub by WiFi. In a reasonable worse case scenario of the WiFi connection not working well, you can try powerline or bite the bullet and run an Ethernet cable from the hub to the 360.

Edited to add that VM does provide free WiFi boosters if you have subscribed to Gig1 Broadband or a Volt package.
