Moved installation date

I ordered Virgin Media on the 09/04/2022

My pre-install date was set as 16/04/2022

My install date was set as 26/04/2022

On 25/04/2022 i was informed that the work hadn't taken place on 16/04/2022. Yet this was the first time i was told, despite someone knowing for 9 days.

I was given a new install date of 09/05/2022, less than 24 hours notice that the installation would be delayed 2 weeks.

We're now stuck with no internet. My wife is a doctor and I run an online healthcare business. Both of which require long hours at work and then to continue work at home and to be on-call 24 hours a day.

We're both having to pay for data upgrades on our mobiles and using their hotspots to try and work. As you can imagine, this isn't very fast and is turning a usual 15 hour day into an 18 hour day (i worked until 11pm last night and started again at 5:00 this morning to try and catch up).

I called the helpline on the 25/04/2022 and was given some pretty uninterested service and told that they'd speak to the area manager about speeding up the connection date and contact me. Needless to say i still haven't received any contact.

Frankly, if the date can't be brought forward i won't be staying with VM, as there are other companies that can connect me in a shorter time-period, who haven't let me down already and have also offered to provide wireless dongles until the installation date.

2 weeks without internet might seem trivial. But when it results in healthcare workers having no choice but to drive to and from work with 5 hours break, 4 hours sleep. To then complete another 18 hour day. There are literal lives at stake.

Re: Moved installation date

Take a look through this forum and, unfortunately, you will find umpteen similar topics about delayed VM installations.

If an installation runs into any unexpected issues (such as a cable duct blocked underground or extensive digging being required etc.) then the installation seems to be at potential risk of delay (or sometimes not happening at all).

When this kind of problem crops up, VM's organisation and management of the problem is totally shambolic and there seems to be little/no communication between VM and its sub-contractors doing the work.

Unfortunately, no one at VM will be able to give you a reliable answer as to whether your delay is genuinely a short one or whether you are going to be strung along by VM for months on end awaiting an installation.

Re: Moved installation date

Hi Rykkers thanks for posting and welcome back to our community.

Sorry to hear there's been a delay in your installation. I would love to take a closer look on your behalf.  I am going to send you a private message.

Regards

Re: Moved installation date

As @goslow has said, Virgin's pre-installation dates are not reliable and can be repeatedly delayed.  The cable installation from the street is done by sub-contractors and there is little or no communication between them and Virgin. If you really need a rapid installation, look elsewhere.
