I was sent my virgin broadband hub and it works fine, however, the extension wire does not connect to the wire coming out of the wall. I've been told I need a female coaxial cable to connect the wall wire to the extension wire. The issue is there is also a second, exposed wire coming out of the wall. I think the person in the house before I moved in had removed a part for the broadband.
I want to know: 1) is the female part all I need, 2) is the wall socket safe, 3) do I require an engineer to look at this, and if so, will virgin charge for this service?
Do you have/have had Sky TV in the past? They can replace the VM connection with there own cables which are not compatible. The best way to check is to try and identify where the cables go to on the outside of the house and see if they go to a brown/grey/purple box near the floor or somewhere else.
It could also be that someone has removed the isolator from the wall, meaning the cable will now have the wrong gender. You can fix this yourself at a cost of a few pounds or get an engineer to fix it if you don't feel comfortable doing it.
