Maximum speed for old Telewest wire & box.

Hi everyone, I am about to sign in for M350 packege and the Virgin web shows that I qualify for a quick start. The flat I moved in some time ago has got two separate lines for Telwest Broadband - a phone line with a standard phone socket and a cable (coax ) line with a box at the end with a single socket for a male f-connector. I know that there are some VB users in my block of flats. My questions are how quickly the service is usually activated and can the old Telewest line support 350Mbs + speed. My top priority is a low latency and a better than everage upload .

Re: Maximum speed for old Telewest wire & box.

Those connectors can support over a Gig so no issues with capacity.

However virgin has higher latency than fttc and upload speeds are only 10%

I work for Virgin Media and my posts are my own opinions

Re: Maximum speed for old Telewest wire & box.

You should get the advertised upload speed of 36Mbps but, unlike download speeds, there is no minimum guaranteed speed.

All , thank you for a quick replay.
The upload speed of 36 Mbps should be enough for me at the moment. The stable low latency is crital.

Re: Maximum speed for old Telewest wire & box.

If you want stable low latency then VM probably isn't for you. An Openreach based connection will deliver lower latency.

Have a look at the gaming forum and see if you're willing to take the risk:

Re: Maximum speed for old Telewest wire & box.

Bear in mind that if VM doesn't work you can back out within 14 days at no penalty.
