I got virgin to come round and move my router from the back of the house to the front, if you look at the photo is this acceptable i did ask if he was going to move the cover from the back and put it in the front but he told me this is how they do it now, just wondering if this is correct as it looks odd just dangling there. Many thanks.

You might reasonably expect to have an internal wall box fitted to house/hide the metal isolator.

I think the story that 'this is how they do it now' is possibly ... made up!

I have this as well, but it’s out of sight. Been like that far many many years without issue. In fact the splitter after the isolator is like that as well.  The only difference is both can’t be seen due to where they are sited indoors.

A 1-gang faceplate neatly chased into the brickwork might be a little hopeful 😁

But a surface-mounted box as per #3 below should not be an unrealistic expectation for the average customer!
