Yes it is normal. VM don't ever cancel your existing contract directly. In some cases (landline and mobile numbers) a number porting request serves to cancel that part of an existing contract, but TV and broadband services, nope, you need to tell your existing provider.
Oooh, and treat the VM installation date as nothing better than a wild guess. If you rely on it and things get delayed, you wouldn't want to be without a connection I'm guessing.
