Installation, socket blocked by a wire

Hello,

I just moved in my new flat and I received the QuickStart installation package today. However I found the socket is blocked by a circular wire (maybe used by some previous tenant for protection purposes). I can’t take it off by myself so I called 0800 953 9500. The agent said I’ll need an engineer who will come on Thursday 15th December. However I did see the appointment on the app. The more weird thing is I received an email saying another QuickStart kit will come on 13th December. Why that happens? Will the engineer come to help me?

Highly unlikely to damage it, put a spanner on the bottom one and move the spanner from right to left, which is clockwise. Also you could try tracing where the top wire goes. If you get it working we can tell from your stats if an attenuator is required.

Post up a photo or two of what you are trying to connect to and the obstacle, in the way, that is preventing you from doing this.

You need to connect to the outlet at the bottom of that box. Some quick start kits come with a small spanner to allow you unscrew & disconnect any existing wiring. The only issue you might have is that the cable you are disconnecting looks to have an attenuator fitted. This reduces the signal level in properties close to an amplifier, so removing this may result in signal issues.

So should I unscrew the wire or not? It seems to be very tight. I also want to confirm if I need an engineer to solve this problem? and why is there another delivery of another QuickStart kit? Thanks!

They are sometimes very tight. I expect the wire above goes to another point, perhaps for a TV.

thank you but I just want to know what I should do now. I just moved in the flat and I really need internet. It is an attenuator. So how can I get internet connection? Do I need an engineer? Why the appointment I made by phone doesn’t appear on the app? Why is there another kit coming?

If you are able to unscrew the wire then try it. If you can’t manage to unscrew it, or the connection does not work then you will require a manned install.

I tried but it’s too tight (l I’m afraid that I may  damage it)… Should I just call again and make an appointment with the engineer for manned installation? Thank you!
