Installation: No white box, green flashing light

Hi, we are trying to get WiFi set up in our new flat.

We were told by virgin media over the phone that VM WiFi has been used before at this address and we were eligible for quick start / self install.

However now we have received the kit there is no long tall white box to push the wall socket into. We have the normal kit with the wall socket push in, battery pack and ethernet cable

There is what a circular wall socket but the VM one doesn't fit. There is also what looks like a VM ethernet output.

We have plugged in the WiFi box and it is flashing green but there's no connection feeding into it.

Do we need to book an engineer visit? Considering the previous owners had VM we should be able to quick start.

Cable on the right in the second picture looks like a VM cable with an isolator and a two way splitter fitted to it. Try removing the cable on the bottom of the isolator and plugging in your hub to it. ' /

Re: Installation: No white box, green flashing light '

its all there if a little untidy - assuming its ok externally then it should work

the cable coming out of the wall is the input - looks like someone has removed the internal box - thats connected to an isolator that you dont actually need if you use the isolator cable that come with the quickstart - but if you remove that and all the other cables you will have one definite problem and [matbe] another one

removing all the cables and the isolator means you start with the wrong connector - if you want to do that then you need one of these -

https://www.diy.com/departments/tristar-data-cable-coupler/571706_BQ.prd

that will let you connect the quichkstart isolator cable to the cable inlet

the question then is will the connection be to the correct spec as removing the splitter and what looks like an attenuator- the block connector on the end of one of the cables - might change the levels to be out of spec

so the best [first] option is to connect the cable with the attenuator to the hub - activate it and if all is good look at the levels - post them here for comment

log into hub3 - 192.168.0.1 [or 192.168.100.1 if in modem mode] - DON'T SIGN IN, click - click router status [centre of screen] - and post the downstream and upstream figures - to see those press on the grey buttons/boxes labelled - upstream - downstream

if they are ok then decide if you are happy with the cable mess as it is - even if you are you really need an internal wall box so either way book a tech and say its not working correctly and they will/should send one out foc
