Hub 4 - Fan constantly running?

Jon22
Dialled in

Hi,

Just rejoined Virgin Media on the 500Mb broadband only. A Hub 4 was provided. Is it normal for the fan to be running all the time? I thought it would only come on when needed. I have the Hub 4 in modem mode, the light ring is off (seen that it somehow makes a difference?). It’s not particularly loud but it came on pretty much as soon as I switched the Hub on.

Could I also get a check on the power levels. I've had to attach a 10dB Forward Path Attenuator to the cable as the downstream levels were between 15-20dBmV. Everything appears to be working fine though.

The LED ring on a Hub4 with the latest firmware should be green in modem mode. The stats are ok, but you certainly need that 10dBm attenuator. From the upstream stats I think you should be on a different tap on the street box. As to the fan, mine runs always, but it is under the stairs with lots of other networking equipment.

Thank you. Out of interest, what is the latest firmware for the Hub 4? Mine shows: 01.02.065.21.EURO.PC20 and the LED ring is white in modem mode.

Had some planned maintenance today. Now have an extra 3.0 and 3.1 upstream channel. Are the power levels ok? More especially the 3.1 channel, seems a little low, although everything appears to be ok. Haven't really noticed the fan in the Hub since posting, so can ignore that.

Upstream power levels appear to be fluctuating, more especially the 3.1 upstream channel. Was showing 36.5dBmV earlier. Now down to 31.2dBmV. Not sure if that's an issue or not? Seen that around 35 is the recommended minimum? Appreciate that bumping seems to put threads to the back of the queue but this one seems to of been missed.
