How long for speed increase to Gig1?

Hi

I upgraded from the 500mb service to Gig1 today. Installed the new Hub 4 about 7 hours ago and the internet works fine.

My upload speed has moved to about 50mb when I check on speedtest but the download speed is exactly the same at about 500mb. Do you know how long it takes for the speed increase to come through on the download?

My service package has changed to Gig1 on my account page and I received a text telling me a signal was sent to my home. I'm testing on a pc with cat 6 ethernet.

If your upload speed has changed then so would your download.

Thanks for the swift reply Carl. I'm in modem mode at the moment with an Asus router (on the gigabit port) so will change it back and revert tomorrow morning. My partner is in the middle of a Netflix thriller and won't let me interfere with that, even for a moment.

Maybe you have QoS set to limit your download speed on Asus router?

No limits on download speed on QoS or otherwise. It's on the same settings as it was with the superhub 3.

Ok, so I tested on the Samknows site and got 1063/925 so it has been actuated.

I went into router mode for this and tested the speeds on wired connections which corresponded with Samknows. However, even though I have internet there are quite a few glitches - the speeds fluctuate wildly during the day and often I can't get into the router via 192.168.0.1, then suddenly I can.

I've tried lots of different ways to enable modem mode with my Asus RT AC66U B1 router but it isn't having it, including rebooting in the right order etc. The same one worked perfectly with the Hub3. There is very little in the way of information on the Virgin site about this - it just tells you how to put it into modem mode but nothing else. Bizarrely it did work, but at reduced speeds i.e. 500mb rather than 1000mb. It showed the wan port on red even though it was obviously connected and able to access the internet. I'll research futher. I should stress that the problems are with download speed, not upload which is solid at 50.

Looks like I'm stuck with the Hub4 for the moment. Early observations are that it's ok but wifi drops off quickly - much more quickly than the Asus. I'm concerned about the wild variance in speed but that may be early days. I'll just have to monitor.

Let's have a look at the stats:

Could you access your router using http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.100.1 for modem mode . You shouldn't need log in, select the 'Check Router Status' option and paste your 'Downstream', 'Upstream', and 'Network Log' tabs? Please copy/paste this data as text, split between multiple posts (Sometimes you have to click 'Post' twice due to an error message).

Could you please create a BQM (Broadband Quality Monitor) here, and post the live link?
