'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

I've recently moved and managed to set up my QuickStart kit with no real issue, except for the fact that my Virgin wall socket appears to literally be inside the wall of my new flat itself (or somewhere else completely unreachable). I searched high and low in my one bedroom flat for hours looking for a wall socket, eventually trying a random cable behind the television and beneath a Virgin ethernet port to connect my Broadband Hub. To my surprise, it worked but I have never seen such a thing. Is this normal? Keep in mind behind the wall in the picture is the bedroom, and also has no visible wall socket.IMG_3152.jpg

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

That looks like a custom wall plate installed by the property developer, previous owner or your landlord, not a normal VM setup AFAIK.  Pity they didn't label it for you.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

Don't knock it - I bet lots of people would like a neat setup like that.

Seriously though, do you know where the two Ethernet sockets go just above the cable? To the bedroom?

Do you have just broadband or TV also?

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

Yes I believe so, there are two more ethernet sockets just behind in the bedroom. This building is fairly new so I think the panel and all its accessories were installed during or shortly after construction; I have only broadband which I brought over from my previous property.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

The builder has just modified a quadplex outlet plate, replacing the standard RJ11 module with a coax outlet. This explains the seperate telephone socket using the surface box.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

I'd like to know if there is an isolator fitted behind that wall.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

I'd guess not from the looks of it. But if it's the property developer it may be further up the line?

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

If you have received a Quickstart kit it should come with a line with an isolator built in, if you haven’t got an isolator I would recommend phoning up to get one sent out to you as they are important.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

Shame they didn't put in a master telephone module for the Telephone line although the master socket isn't required now telephone comes over IP.

Re: 'Hidden' Virgin Wall Socket

Very cool and clean setup.    Phones now go in there modem. Inless you have no landline and then virgin can install a emergency phone socket that works in a power cut.
