External Trunking

Tuning in

I'm going to do some external ground works before my installation so the cable can be buried under ground. Is it possible to get the external trunking that Virgin use anywhere? I will have to lift a couple of slabs so would like to have the trunking in place prior to the installation so I can make the path good.

You can get a general idea of how VM go about installing the ducting etc. from the VM new build handbook. Pgs 12 and 13 might be useful to you for general info.

The underground cable ducting is available online or maybe from some local builders' merchants or electrical wholesalers. Whether or not you go to that length might depend on how long a distance you need to cover with the duct. If you just need to cross under a narrow pathway then some flexible cable conduit of a suitable size from a local electrical wholesaler might do. Over a longer length, fit a draw rope for the cable to be pulled through. If you are installing a longer length of ducting, use the proper stuff with a suitably smooth wall inside for the cable to slide through. On a past DIY cabling project, I tried to use some flexible corrugated pond pump water pipe as a cable duct and the corrugations inside stopped the cable from moving past even small turns.

The above assumes you are having coax cable installed. Don't know if there are any further issues to consider if you are getting FTTP.
