Extending external cable

Hi. We are getting our front garden paved in two weeks and have just noticed that the cable from the road to the house is about 1 inch deep with no slack. Is it possible to either extend the cable so we can bury it or get it relaid?  And does it have to be a virgin supplied cable and/or fitter?  Thanks very much. Jonathan.
