Duplicate Connection at parents

Hi, I will be moving back to my parents for short term next month and VM advised I can take my account and have a duplicate account as they already have a vm connection, VM say an engineer will have to come out to instal. Now my question is what exactly does the install consist of, will there have to be a new cable routed into the house?

Re: Duplicate Connection at parents

This is an unusual situation. I have never heard of them doing this before on a temporary basis.  So I am a bit concerned that an offshore agent may not have given you the correct advice.

Also, I am wondering whether any additional costs/charges were explained and have been set out clearly to you - were they?

I wouldn't do anything until a VM person responds on here to advise.

Re: Duplicate Connection at parents

Hi John thanks for your reply, there were no mention of any additional charges but I can confirm it was an offshore agent, is this something that is not done then?

Re: Duplicate Connection at parents

Two accounts at one property is unusual but not unheard of. Its also an expensive way to do it for what is in reality - one family. Usually used when (for example) two families share an address. But its obviously then costing two connections on separate subscriptions added together - so costly. You mention it was a "temporary transfer" of your account - that I have never heard of. Particularly as you say VM would send a Tech to install a separate line - they normally charge for that installation and activation. They need to recoup their install costs they have incrured somehow, and if its only temporary, I don't see how they can - unless you are still paying full charges at the address you are moving from perhaps? Were you actually planning to terminate that contract with the 30-day notice period?

So without knowing the specific details - and that is between you, your parents and VM - it's not obvious how they would work this. And I would suggest that the average offshore CS agent would have no idea how to do this - unless they were actually one of VM's specialists in this area.

In any case have asked a VM person to come here and they should contact you from here (by a personal message I assume) sometime on Tuesday and they will discuss it with you.

Re: Duplicate Connection at parents

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums Croxdj, and a very warm welcome to you!

Duplicate accounts is not something that we tend to do, and it may be worth considering how much this would cost you and the household per month under the current circumstances.

If you're out of contract currently, it may be worth cancelling the deal altogether and serving a 90 day notice period, and then signing up for a new connection with our sales team.

If this period of disconnected to a new connection is greater than 90 days, then you would also be entitled to a new customer deal, so might be better for you financially in the long run.

Kindest regards,

Re: Duplicate Connection at parents

Thanks for letting us know, well do feel free to take some time to think what's best for you

Just to clear up a little typo in my previous post - serve a 30 day period (not a 90 day period)

90 day period between disconnection and signing up for a new customer deal is as written

Kindest regards,

For completion, if you dont mind, can you tell us what option they offered you?  Did you cancel the old contract on 30-days notice as suggested and will return in the future?  Or did they have some other thing they could offer?
