Hi guys

Is it possible to find onto if I need my driveway dug up in order to install VM internet and tv services in a 4yr old development house? I am currently a sky fibre and tv customer. Many thanks

To clarify, why do you think you need to dig up your driveway to install VM?

In a new-build development, the developer puts in the VM infrastructure underground when the house are built.

You may be able to see VM equipment on the outside of your home or on the street (such as VM cabinets, access covers in the pavement outside each property, omniboxes on the wall of your home etc.)

The new-build handbook will give you an idea of what is installed for VM provision as part of a new build development

e.g. the brown plastic boxes outside on pages 4, 12 and 28

There are a few hoops to jump through.

The first thing is to check whether Virginmedia can service your area.

Developers usually build in infrastructure for either Openreach (BT Sky etc) or Virginmedia, so if you already have Openreach at your house then it would mean a full new cabling installation for Virgin. That could be either buried or run along a fence or either structure.

You'd need to check on your deeds whether running new cables is permitted. And if the developer still controls the road or pavement access to the property, Virgin will need permission from them for any digging.

Then you will need to convince Virgin that it would be economic for them to put in sufficient infrastructure to service one new house.

Many thanks for this, it sounds a lot closer to my situation. I am now in touch with the VM new build account manager for NI, [REMOVED], who is making these enquiries on my behalf (regarding whether or not the infrastructure has been laid in the new development or not). This will inform my decision on whether to proceed or not.
