Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

Hi all,

Just had Virgin Media (broadband/phone line) installed at my sister's place.

She has got an existing Sky TV box but the Net was crap with that so she switched to VM today.

The engineer left instructions to log on to 192.168.0.1 and to then put in the IP address of the Virgin Super Hub into the settings page so that the WiFi can work properly?

Grateful if someone could confirm this please.

Where do I locate the IP address of the Super Hub and the subnet mask too?

If this method doesn't work, the engineer mentioned purchasing a "Sky mini wireless connector" to make things work. Please advise on this too.

Thanks.

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

the instructions don't make sense!
192.168.0.1 *is* the IP address of the hub3

i assume they meant connect the sky box to your WIFI network. if your sky box is less than 5 years old then it should have WIFI built-in.

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

Hi chenks,

I'm going by what the engineer had said before he left.

I'm going to get some clarification and then I will post back.

Thanks.

(the Internet is now being supplied by VM and not Sky.) The Sky box only supplies the TV. That's it.

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

yes, so connect the SKY box to the WIFI network supplied by the virgin hub.
the sky box will have WIFI built-in to allow it to connect to on-demand services.

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

It's best to connect with an Ethernet cable. If she uses WiFi she may have the option of WPS (perhaps a bit easier than entering the hub's WiFi password).

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

Hi Roger_Gooner,

That's a lot better.

So does she connect a network cable from the Sky box to the Hub?

Then what does she do?

Thanks.

if you are using ethernet, then yes, you would connect an ethernet cable from the sky box to the hub.
then she does nothing, as the box is now connected.

the URL i posted shows you how to connect a sky box to internet - a quick google would have given you that link from sky.

Re: Connecting Sky box to Virgin Super Hub

chenks,

Ethernet cable connected.

According to your link, I will have to go in to the settings page and put in the following:-

IP address - Virgin hub?
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0?
Router - 192.168.0.1?
DNS servers - 194.168.4.100 or Google or whatever?

Please advise.

Thanks.
