Can’t connect my router RJ45

So I was with TalkTalk via fibre to the cabinet. CityFibre called and arranged a visit to install fibre to the premise, which includes a small black box in my front room, with only a power and RJ45 socket.

I could connect my talktalk router from the wall socket to the WAN port on my talktalk router. The only issue is TalkTalk was unable to upgrade my line to fibre 500 due to technical reasons. After months of agonising calls, talktalk gave me £200 and suggested a different broadband provider.

In comes Virgin. I went to the website and registered for broadband. 3 days later a hub 3.0 arrives with 4 LAN ports on the back and a round coaxial cable which I can’t connect to anything.

I tried connecting the hub 3.0 to the FTTP box cityfibe installed via the ethernet cable, so RJ45 to RJ45, but nothing…

Have Virgin sent me the wrong hub, or do all their hubs connect via that round coaxial cable? Meaning Virgin need to come out and fit a different box in my front room?

Update: near the new box cityfibre installed, i saw an old faded box with a coaxial cabled screwed in, but the cable cut away.

i unscrewed what was dangling from the socked and pushed in the coaxial cable that came with the hub 3.

now the router has new symbols flashing. In addition to the green wireless symbol, appeared a new green connection symbol. However, the flat white light at the bottom remained amber, and now the router appears completely dead, no lights at all.

i think virgin just sent the router out because at some point in the past, someone here had virgin services.

anyway, now i have what appears to be a dead router…..
