Cable won’t fit in router

Hello. I have a Virgin Media cable that looks like it should just fit straight into the router but doesn’t. Is there something I need to do/buy to get it to go in? Thanks

Have you screwed the connector onto the threaded socket on the back of the VM hub?

Old-style VM connectors (which looks like what you probably have in your first pic) screw onto the connector. New ones from VM have no threads inside and are a push fit.

What is the other end of the white cable connected to? Somewhere in the cable arrangement you need an isolator before the cable connects to the VM hub.

Yeah I’ve tried screwing and it just won’t go in.

The white cable (as far as I can tell) goes out my first floor flat into this by the main door on ground floor:

If the connector threads have some slight damage it can be hard to screw them on.

Firstly make sure that the plug and the socket on the VM hub are perfectly aligned straight with each other. If they are not perfectly straight you will get a crossed thread. Make sure the piece of copper cable inside the middle of the plug pokes into the hole on the VM hub's socket before you try to screw on the connector.

Secondly, once you have the plug and socket perfectly aligned straight, try turning the plug anti-clockwise a little bit (the opposite way you would normally screw it on) and see if you feel a slight 'click' as the first bits of the threads align with each other (while you are turning the plug slowly anti-clockwise). If you feel that click going anti-clockwise the threads may have aligned into place, then gently screw the plug the correct way (clockwise) and see if it goes on then.

If you only have that trailing cable, you could try this adapter onto the end of your cable first

then use the push fit connector on the cable supplied from the 'Quick Start' pack to connect to the adapter and the other end to the VM hub. That should also include the isolator.

The connector you have for the Hub does look like the an F-Connector
they can be quite stiff to fit ( requires more than just fingers ) especially if there is any dirt in the threads.

Here is the back of our Hub 3 - when the connector is secured a fair amount of thread remain exposed.

The white box is for Community Fibre which isn't compatable with VM.

There should be a Virgin Media box in the property to connect the white coaxial cable to,
