Hi

I am booked to have my services installed on the 30 March and opted to have a 360 mini in the bedroom.  As I had sky Q it was done with wifi for the TV but It appears that the mini requires a coax cable - is this correct?

The best option for me would be to run a cable externally up in to the loft and down in to the bedroom where the tv is rather than have cables along skirting.  Is that possible or do these cables need to be internally installed?.  I would maybe need to do some pre install work if so to be able to pull cable down from attick but its only like 0.5m.  Also do they install a face plate at the site of the mini?

Hi this is not a DIY thing you will have to have a virgin engineer to do this, depending on who you get to do the work they may be able to do this, but I wouldn't count on it. Regards Micky

Yes it needs a coax cable connection from the external VM omnibox.

Cable can be run internally along skirts etc... or... they can run the cable externally and then drill through the bedroom wall and instal a wall box connection in there. I have a V6 connected in an upstairs bedroom like that

They dont usually go into lofts (H&S!) but shouldnt need to

VM use specialised coax, as the frequency spectrum they use is shared by terrestrial TV, Radio & mobile phone services. Ingress from any of these will disrupt their network. You could install a pull wire to get the installers cable where you want. Bear in mind installers only carry short ladders & are not heights trained, so accessing the outside of the roof won’t be possible.

the height to my facia board at roof level is at a guess 7 - 10 metres high and I dont mind going up my ladder as I do to clean gutters and pulling the cable up in to the loft and down in to my bedroom to where the tv is. For this coax lead do the fit an outlet box or just leave a Coaxial plug on the end? I would like to make it neater and would buy a faceplate and backbox if needed to. Would the pre install team help ?

An inline isolator will need to be fitted where the cable enters the room. This comes in the form of an angled outlet surface box.

You cant use your own coax. Its likely it wont be coax - rather their own cable from where the omnibox will be located on your outside wall around the house and up to the room where they will fit the surface box and the run Coax from that box to the 360. Other connections downstairs will come from there too. At least mine do.

As nodrogd says. fit a pull rope (strong string !) where you want the cable to run.

The Tech can then use that to pull their cable through and finish it off inside

If the cables can be run outside up to the bedroom then I will feed the cable up into the fascia board and pull it down from the loft into the bedroom where the TV is ( far neater) and they can install the surface box behind the TV.
