2 phone numbers over 1 fiber and 1 hub?

Hi, I'm looking for advice about the switchover to fiber phone calling.

Currently we have 2 virgin fiber lines with separate numbers. Both come into the house, 1 supplies fiber Internet and a phone line. The second just supplies a phone line. We only have 1 hub on the line which supplies the Internet as well.

With the changeover to fiber phone calls. Can a single hub support 2 different phone numbers whilst it's only connected to 1 fiber line? Or with the switch over will I need 2 hubs, one on each fiber line?

Thanks

Re: 2 phone numbers over 1 fiber and 1 hub?

"The second just supplies a phone line" this must be just an ordinary telephone line. You cannot get a telephone over a ‘fibre’ line without a hub and you only have one. Also unless you pay for 2 broadband connections you can only have one hub. Unless it’s a very new installation it’s not fibre at all, but coax. The cables supply to your house are 1 coax connection and up to two telephone lines. These cable are connected together in a ‘shotgun’ configuration and terminated on the outside of your property in an omnibox where they are joined to the internal cables to your hub + possibly TV and telephone. VM are at present making the the physical telephone cable redundant by supplying the telephone connection via their hub via an adaptor. The hub can support two telephone lines although as yet I have not seen on the board anyone with two telephones connected to a hub.
Your best bet is to wait for a VM staff member to get to your post in 2 or 3 days.

Re: 2 phone numbers over 1 fiber and 1 hub?

Hey Tudor thanks for the reply. Yeah thats what I meant. We have 2 fibre with phone line cables coming into the property. These come into a box which then connects to the internal wiring.

2 fibre+phone line cables come in and then 1 coax and 2 phone lines come out (as we only have 1 Internet package). (ignoring TV stuff here). There is only 1 phone line in each incoming bundle.

I'm hopeful that virgin can put both phone number through the 1 fibre/coax and we can use tel 1 and tel 2 on the one hub. As you say we don't have a broadband package on the second line only a phone contract.

Hi Symi, thanks for the message and welcome to the forums.

You can have two different phone lines, the hub has two phone slots and they can be different numbers on them.

Chris.
