intermittent wifi

recently I have been having issues with intermittent connection on my wireless devices. Most devices only have infrequent intermittency issues, whilst my tablet is connected for 10 seconds to a minuet at a time before disconnecting. This happens for most of the day.

Here are my network logs.

Re: intermittent wifi

I don't see much wrong with your stats - couple of timeouts in the logs, but spread out and that's not unusual.. one or two rcs parcial service messages, but again spread out so unlikely to be causing the issues you're seeing with wireless devices..

do you have anything that you can connect to the hub with an ethernet cable to see if you get the same drop outs? (inconvenient, yes, but worth testing if you can).

also worth setting up a BQM to see how the connection is performing - it'll take 24 hours to get a decent set of data, so the sooner you do it the sooner we can look at it 🙂

Re: intermittent wifi

My pc is wired in and has no issues with internet connection and I have ran tests which showed no issue with my wired connection and during times of intermittency, my wired pc works without issue. The issue I'm having with the Wi-Fi is mainly just affecting one device a lot of the time with other devices facing the same issue but much less frequently. I also ran the built in ping test and caught it during a period of intermittency where it reported 3 packets sent but 0 received. I have just set up the BQM and so will have to provide results tomorrow.

when you post it back, select the "live graph" and then click the "sharing link" that will post it back here without your IP address..

Re: intermittent wifi

So, whilst it's not a full 24h of data yet, the graph doesn't look too bad - couple of high spikes, but acceptable for a cable connection.. i'd say based on your stats and the BQM that your problem is just with the wifi rather than the connection..

you could try a different hub, though you'll probably face an uphill struggle with VM because they don't provide any guarantee about wifi performance and from all of their telemetry your connection will look fine.. you could also try refining your wifi network a little (by splitting the 2.4 and 5ghz bands into two separate networks) and seeing if that improves things.. but really, the best option you have is to buy yourself a decent router or mesh system and put the hub in modem mode.. prices start at about £100 for a reasonable system (maybe a little higher for a mesh system, depending on what offers are available) but it should improve things significantly for you..

Re: intermittent wifi

I appear to have found a solution to my issue. The solution I found was to disable the Chanel optimisation and increase the band width of the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz from the factory settings to 20/40 MHZ for 2.4GHz and to 20/40/80 MHz for the 5GHz Chanel. I made this change of the Saturday and I have not had an issue with intermittent Wi-Fi so far.
